March
Association, along with the Minneapolis Pipefitters and Minneapolis Plumbers, signed a voluntary affirmative action agreement with the City of Minneapolis. The agreement included apprenticeship recruitment goals for women and people of color.
April
Settlement with the St. Paul Plumbers for 90 cents over one year. -All four pipe trades locals now have a substance abuse policy.
May
The State of Minnesota approved the Association's affirmative action agreement for use state-wide.
1991
April
Three year labor agreement reached with the St. Paul and Minneapolis plumber unions.
May
After a 3-day strike by both pipefitter locals 455 and 539, settlements are reached for three years.
October
National Association of Human Rights awards MMCA for "significant contributions to the cause of human rights in America."
November
As a service to members, Association begins pulling heating and air conditioning permits from the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Market survey of heating and air conditioning customers conducted to pursue establishing a metal tradesman labor classification.
1992
April
Association works with other trade associations to get a Workers' Compensation premium adjustment program (MCPAP) approved by the Commerce Department. Program decreases the amount by which the premiums of high-paying union employers subsidize the premiums of low-paying non-union contractors.
July
In a victory for non-union contractor BE&K and a defeat for the State of Minnesota and the Association, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals overturns a state licensing regulation requiring three journeymen for every apprentice, saying that ERISA preempts the ratio. U.S. Supreme Court declines to hear an appeal.
August
Association sends a completely revised edition of its seven-volume Encyclopedia Mechanica to all member companies.
November
Association and AGC of Minnesota co-sponsor a seminar on Total Quality Management.
MMCA and SMARCA hold a joint board meeting to discuss partnering

February
MMCA and ASHRAE meet jointly to learn about chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) recovery, recycling, and conversion.
March
Representatives from MMCA and the Minnesota Pipe Trades promote the industry on television commercials during the state boys' hockey tournament.
April
Association negotiates a three-year settlement with the Minneapolis and St. Paul Pipefitters calling for yearly raises of $1.08, $1.08, and $1.10. Minneapolis pipefitter apprentices receive a one-time 500 raise in addition to their percentage increase.
June
MMCA, NECA, and SMARCA jointly sponsor a survey on general contractors. Results are released in MMCA's Encyclopedia Mechanica Volume VIII.
November
In an effort to control Workers' Compensation costs, the Association joins with the Twin City Pipe Trades Service Association and PHCC in conducting a survey of contractors to determine the feasibility of Workers' Compensation self-insurance.
1994
April
First annual "Water's Off Day," a program to fix plumbing problems for senior citizens and disabled homeowners. Jointly sponsored by MMCA, Minneapolis Plumbers Local 15, and St. Paul Plumbers Local 34.
May
Settlement reached with Minneapolis and St. Paul plumber unions for increases of $1.10 in each of two years. Three-year agreement reached with Mankato Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 561 for $1.10 each year.
June
Membership drive results in ten new members.
October
Minneapolis and St. Paul plumber and pipefitter unions collaborate with MMCA to offer AWAIR/Right-to-Know seminars and certification.
An "Industry Member" classification is opened up and ten new industry members join.
December
In lieu of a party at the national convention for outgoing MCAA president Gerald Egan of Egan Companies, MMCA establishes an apprentice scholarship for each of Locals 15, 34, 455, and 539 for people of color and women.
1995
March
Industry Affirmative Action Agreements are renewed with the City of Minneapolis and the State of Minnesota.
April
MMCA participates in a Homeowner's Plumbing Warranty Program with Locals 15 and 34. The warranty program extends the state residential warranty from two years to five.
September
In response to outbreaks of Legionnaires' disease in the cities of Luverne and Mankato, MMCA works with the Minnesota Department of Health to develop information and present programs on preventing this deadly disease, including working safely with cooling towers.
Tenth annual "Project Heat's On" is a success. Volunteers from Minneapolis Pipefitters 539, St. Paul Pipefitters 455, and MMCA inspected and repaired furnaces for more than 250 low-income senior and disabled homeowners in the Twin Cities.
